Chicken Little Was Right
Catherine Wilde, sixtyish, is pursuing her craft as a furniture restorer when the sky falls on her. Her daughter and son-in-law are killed in a car crash, and then she learns that not only does the son-in-law’s family inherit, but the inheritance includes the loan on her house, which they intend to foreclose.
Obviously there’s only one recourse for the hitherto law-abiding middle-class lady: She’s got to rob a bank. And so she does, using a ketchup-filled toy knife. When she tries to give back the toddler she’s taken as hostage, however, she finds that the little girl’s mother has just left an abusive husband and has no place to go.
There’s only one option for the successful bank robber: She takes the pair in as houseguests.
But there are dire and unforeseen repercussions – not from the police, but from some highly professional thugs. Cat finds herself in a stickier situation than ever, until, with the help of some decidedly offbeat friends, she is able to pull out of the morass.
