Notes on Nursing and Other Writings

Orignally published in 1860, “Notes on Nursing “was written by Florence Nightingale as a manual to aspiring nurses. Still relevant today with commonsense advice for all caregivers charged with looking after the sick and injured, the book also offers a revealing look into the history of the nursing profession.

Nightingale, the most famous nurse in history, was awarded the Order of Merit by the Queen of England in 1907 for her contributions to medicine and work on behalf of British soldiers during the Crimean War. Kaplan’s edition also features “Cassandra,” one of Nightingale’s most important essays on women in Victorian society, and her correspondence.
