The Day Before Cookbook (1st ed.)
1st edition/1st printing
Published in 1968.
One of the more efficient and no-nonsense time-saving cookbooks for the time-harassed we’ve seen, this collection of “”guesty”” recipes supplies sample menus-only a dozen for dinner, luncheon and buffet; but unless you travel in diplomatic circles, these complete quiche-to-coffee assemblages which offer dramatic taste contrasts, allow for possible deletions and alternates, bear a repetition in the most social cycles. Miss Greenberg’s main contribution is a careful chronological table of procedures–with approximate preparation time given. As for the recipes–generally conservative and idiot-proof although the author takes an occasional fling with something like poached fish in ale; rum avocado soup. We take exception to her non-discriminating use of canned baked beans (there’s a tremendous variety), but on the whole–safe and sane.
